After creating a course, build the course to fit the needs of the learners with a variety of engagement tools. Instructors can create unique courses by building lessons using the different question types, interactive PDF activities, discussions, videos, Google Drive or Microsoft Office resources, and more. Follow the guidance below to learn how to build a course.

Add a Unit or Lesson

  • After creating a course, one blank unit and lesson will appear in the course. Add another unit or lesson by selecting '+ Unit' or '+ Lesson' in the course.

  • Rename the units and lessons by selecting the edit icon next to the titles.

Add Content

Build content using the content blocks within a lesson. Each lesson has the following content blocks that can be used to build lessons.

  • Text
  • Add PDF or MS Office files
    • Make a PDF interactive using the toggle at the top after selecting 'PDF'.
  • 9 Question types
    • Auto graded question types:
      • multiple choice
      • multiple select
      • sorting
      • matching
    • Multi-question quiz
      • Use the toggle above the question types to build a quiz. Quizzes are auto-graded, so the question type options are multiple choice, multiple select, sorting, and matching.
      • Refer to 'Quiz Settings' to learn more about customizing the quiz.
  • Upload Google Drive content
  • Add images with text
  • Add a video, with questions embedded
  • Add a discussion question
    •  Learners must answer the discussion question before seeing others responses. As the instructor, set the number of required replies in the discussion.
  • Upload submission
    • Learners can upload files created outside of Canopy. Submission files must be in one of the following formats: pdf, .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, .jpeg, .png, .mp3, .wav, .mp4, or .mov.
  • Scorm packages

Add audio to content block by selecting the microphone icon, found in the content block title bar. Record yourself giving directions or any relevant information for the learners to listen to.

Preview

Preview a lesson as a learner by selecting 'Preview' in the lesson bar.
